PACTL top priority service to Qatar Airways' epidemic prevention materials for Shanghai government

In the afternoon of February 22nd, the handover ceremony of the Qatar Airways Group’s epidemic prevention materials for Shanghai Municipal People’s Government  was held in Shanghai Pudong International Airport Cargo Terminal (PACTL). Mrs. Shang Yuying, Shanghais Deputy Secretary General, attended the handover ceremony and expressed deep gratitude to Qatar Government and Qatar Airways for their huge support to Shanghai’s epidemic prevention work. Officials from Foreign Affairs Office, Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, Shanghai Civil Affairs Bureau, Shanghai Customs, Shanghai Airport Authority as well as representatives from Shanghai Office of Qatar Airways Group attended the ceremony.


Previously, Qatar Airways has announced to cooperate with Chinese Embassy in Qatar, taking advantage of its global aviation network, to build a green channel between China and Qatar and offer free air cargo for epidemic prevention materials organized by Chinese Embassies. This time, Qatar Airways arranged three freighters to China with the prevention materials and the other two freighters have already arrived in Beijing on the same day. Mr. Akbar Al Bake, CEO of Qatar Airways Group and  Mr. Zhou Jian, Chinese Ambassdor to Qatar attended the convoy’s departure in Doha.


At 2:20 a. m, Qatar Airway’s cargo freighter QR8870, fully loaded with 91.9 tonnes of medical supplies including 435,000 medical masks and 163,000 bottles of sanitizer, landed at Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG). Shanghai Pudong International Airport Cargo Terminal (PACTL) gave top priority over the shipment and opened the green channel for quick cargo handling and delivery service.


Shanghai Pudong International Airport, as an international air cargo hub with the largest cargo volume in mainland China and the third largest in the world, gives fully play to its role as an air gateway and takes advantage of its worldwide route network to facilitate the international supply chains, transport and transit of epidemic prevention materials for an actively supporting to frontline. As of February 21, supplies from 150 original airports, 31 airlines and 350 flights worldwide arrived at PACTL to bring the most emergency supplies to the places need them in the most efficient and safe way which includes purchase from the government, donations from the United Nations Children's Fund, German Red Cross Foundation, EMR, Fosun Pharmaceutical, Alibaba etc., and PACTL has fully supported on the transport of the supplies.


Time is supreme during the epidemic war. When facing the epidemic situation, PACTL actively fulfills its social responsibilities to respond to the requests from Shanghai Municipal Party Committee and Government to set up the green channel for quick handling of epidemic prevention supplies with measures of “three priorities, two advance services” . That is priorities for storage position reservation, information processing and cargo break-down & delivery service, and advance services for manifest checking and all dedicated employees in position. Meanwhile, PACTL builds a close communication with the Customs, security and airlines to achieve the Shanghai Airport Speed to fast release the supplies and complete tuck loading within an hour. Since January 22, PACTL has been operating continously with the high efficiency and high service standards to ensure the air transport, handling more than 1,110 tonnes of anti-epidemic materials at least that includes 820 shipements and 72,000 pieces in total.


PACTL actively gives fully play to its professional and international advantages in the transportation of epidemic prevention materials. As a neutral air cargo terminal to firstly achieve IATA CEIV Pharma certificate in mainland China, PACTL has gained the trust of customer airlines such as Lufthansa, Air China, AirBridgeCargo, Cathay Pacific and Turkish Airlines to hand over their medical products, medical apparatus and instruments which require handling efficiency, strict storage temperature and humidity. The shipments include "ECMO" artificial heart-lung machine, CT machine, X-ray machine accessories, reverse transcriptase, gene amplification reagent, KF nucleic acid extractor magnetic sleeve, RNA kit, laboratory animals, etc. For these special cargo, PACTL strictly follows the operating procedure and meet all instructions related during cargo handling, to ensure good condition of special emergency equipment and timely transportation.
